Gordonstoun School - Case Study
Korrie supplied and installed the mechanical and plumbing services at the second phase of the refurbishment of Gordonstoun Sports Hall with Robertsons Construction.
The works at the school were completed in spring 2013 and opened by former pupils Zara Philips and Olympic gold medallist Katherine Grainger CBE.
Korrie assisted the project team by value engineering the mechanical plumbing services in order to meet the client's budget. The project involved alteration and conversion of the existing gymnasium into changing rooms with shower facilities, class rooms, staff rooms and toilet areas.
Korrie installed a wood chip biomass boiler complete with back up boiler. The biomass boiler had a bespoke wood chip bunker built complete with an external fuel feed mechanism. The design encompassed a wood chip trough with elevator system in order to ease fuel delivery and maximise fuel storage space.
The LTHW heating system was used as the primary heat source for the sports hall with Korrie carrying out adaptions to the existing heating systems within the swimming pool and the new build gymnasium constructed during phase one of the refurbishments. Mechanical ventilation was provided via 4 heat recovery air handling units serving various internal spaces within the building. Underfloor heating was installed to emit heat into the building and provide independent room temperature control. Air conditioning was provided to the fitness rooms. The complete mechanical system was controlled via a TREND building management system to enable incorporation into the estate's remote monitoring system.
