Plockton High School - Case Study
Biomass LTHW System and School Extension
Korrie installed a 400kW wood pellet biomass boiler to service the school and hostel buildings. Mansell were appointed as main contractor to construct the external plantroom as well as a school hall extension for The Highland Council.
A 400kW biomass boiler LTHW system provides heat to a 30,000 litre thermal store. Heat is then circulated via 2 export shunt circuits to the Hostel and School plantrooms. The automatic control system installation was designed to utilise the biomass system as the principal heat source in both buildings.
The school extension works involved the creation of a dining hall, home economics classroom and toilet block. Mechanical and natural ventilation, LTHW services, water services, LPG gas and plumbing services were installed within the extension.
The Highland Council will receive substantial Government funded RHI payments for 20 years following commissioning of the biomass system. This installation forms one of a number of biomass installations for The Highland Council and creates a strong portfolio delivering a steady cash-flow.
